We hope you enjoyed the INCCA Café: Art Conservation in Latinoamérica last week. Coming up on the 20th of April, we are hosting INCCA Talk: Challenges in Conservation of Contemporary Art Works in India. While an artist encompasses deeper meanings and thought processes in their work, the durability of the art work might face threats due to the inherent properties of the materials used or the way it’s been constructed. A conservator, on the other hand, has to decide how to preserve harmony between an artist's original thought process and its product. Our speakers, Subrata Sen and Merrin Anil, will share a few case studies regarding the challenges in retaining the original value as well as maintaining physical integrity, when original materials used for making the work itself accelerate the degradation process. Register for the Talk here.
On another note, M+ Museum interviewed the artist Samson Young as part of their M+ Artist Interview Program and has kindly shared the recording with the INCCA Community. Samson Young is a Hong Kong artist whose multimedia works are well-represented in the M+ collections. This presentation and preservation-focused dialogue with Young allowed audiences to gain an understanding of his artistic concept and how it informed his choice of materials. The talk further explained how the M+ Conservation team established the identity of his works or the inherent and unchangeable elements that made them what they are. Watch the recording here.
Last but not least, we would like to invite everyone to propose any Cafés and/or Talks. You are welcome to initiate dialogues among multiple speakers and the audience or organise presentations exploring current issues in contemporary art conservation and related fields. You can learn more about INCCA Cafés and Talks on the INCCA website. Send an email to info@incca.org for any questions, advice, and discussion about the format, content, and more details.
We would love to hear from you!
Cheers,
INCCA Steering Community
