Dear INCCA community,

We hope you are all keeping well! In this newsletter we would like to recap our latest Student Café and INCCA Talk, invite you to a new Special Interest meeting, and say goodbye to our long-standing INCCA co-ordinator.

On the 5th of June 2025 INCCA hosted the Fifth Student Café which focused on innovative treatments. All speakers were offered one-on-one mentoring before the Café with members of the INCCA Steering Committee for support with their presentations, and to help them start to connect with professionals in the field.  Clarissa Faccini de Lima began the Café with a case study on Flor Negra by Cabrita (1999), followed by Catarina Rocha Pires who gave a snapshot into her work in the MOXY project, ending with Edwin Huang who concluded the talks by discussing different treatment options to restore vintage audio equipment and components. Questions following the presentations allowed the speakers to discuss with the 54 participants more freely about the challenges, limitations, and practicalities of their research, such as the involvement of the artist, testing on real art objects and the wider impact of their research.

INCCA also hosted a talk on the 19th of June by conservator Monica Marchesi, Stedelijk Museum, in conversation with Vivian van Saaze, Maastricht University & Dutch Heritage Agency, on her newly developed guidelines “From Bits to Ink – Preserving and Printing Digital-Based Photographic Artworks” aimed at supporting the conservation community. As more artists deliver photographic works in digital formats, museums increasingly acquire more digital files rather than physical prints, creating challenges related to acquisition, conservation, authorship, and material authenticity. Her guidelines therefore offer accessible recommendations for museum professionals responsible for these digital-based artworks, providing a structured approach to managing the translation from the digital file into a photographic print. English live captions and German AI translation were available for this event.

To offer a deeper exploration of the guidelines, INCCA will be hosting an additional Special Interest Meeting with Monica on 10th July 2025 which will be a smaller, interactive session limited to 20 participants, providing an opportunity for in-depth discussion and valuable feedback exchange. We invite those with a strong interest in the topic and who participated in Monica’s talk to join for this meeting. There are 6 spots left, so please register here  if you are interested! If the number of subscriptions exceeds the maximum number of participants, INCCA will select participants to ensure an even distribution from different parts of the world.

And lastly, a huge thank you to Paula Chang, INCCA’s co-ordinator for the last 3 years. She’s been a huge asset to our community, supported new initiatives and facilitated a range of successful INCCA events. We wish her all the best on her next venture.

Best wishes to our vibrant community!

INCCA Steering Committee
