Susana França de Sá has completed her master degree in 2011 in Conservation Science with the thesis ‘The behaviour of flexible polyurethane foam in a contemporary sculpture´ (Universidade Nova de Lisboa, UNL). During 2010, she has also developed a conservation project in collaboration with Colecção da Caixa Geral de Depósitos where her interest for polyurethane has started. From this work, she has integrated the Project ‘Documentação de Arte Contemporânea’ PTDC/EAT-MUS/114438/2009. In 2012, she became a Ph.D. student in Conservation Science at the Department of Conservation and Restoration (UNL) with the aim to establish conservation methodologies and preventive practices for the preservation of polyurethane artefacts. Her interests include documentation of contemporary artworks, material characterisation and development of conservation strategies, with a special focus on ephemeral materials such as polyurethane foams. More recently, she is also interested in the field of history and technology focusing her attention on the plastics industry and its relationships with art, fashion and product design creative processes.
