What is your education and/or training?
Helen Grogan holds qualifications in philosophy, visual art, choreography, and dance as an alumnus of the University of Melbourne, Amsterdam University of the Arts, City University of New York, and Deakin University. In 2019, her practice-led research was awarded the Jennifer Bowskill Photography Award from the Victorian College of Arts/The University of Melbourne. Her first training in performance archives occurred at The Kitchen, New York City, encompassing description, digitisation, and collection engagement. Her experience in time-based art documentation, archives, and collections includes work with Liquid Architecture (Melbourne), Performance Review (Melbourne), The Kitchen (New York City), Performance Space New York (New York City), Gertrude Contemporary (Melbourne), c3 Contemporary Art Space (Melbourne), Movement Research (New York City), Specific In-Between at Australian Center for Contemporary Art (Melbourne), Open Archive (Melbourne) co-directed by Jared Davis & Helen Grogan, and Hannah Mathews’ exhibition project Action/Response (Melbourne). As a practising artist, her installation and performance works have been exhibited in visual art and performing art contexts in Australia, Japan, Mexico, US, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Sweden and online. Grogan is an experienced University Lecturer and practice-lead research supervisor.
