Abstract

In contemporary art the variety of constructive techniques and the meaning network established among the artistic object, the space and the audience, are elements in evidence. Understanding these features is essential to the intervention of conservator-restorers on these art objects. From this perspective we developed the project "Conversation Between Partners: future artists and future conservators," a proposed interaction between artists and conservators-restorers. The essay is based on collecting data about the Visual Art' student's research through interviews conducted by graduate students in Conservation-Restoration of Movable Cultural Property, both from the School of Fine Arts -- UFMG. The activities were held during the course of Contemporary Art Conservation and Thematic talk, given by Prof. Dr. Magali Melleu Sehn. This trial resulted in an outline of the most appropriate methodology for conducting interviews among these professionals, revealing the artists' awareness regarding the quality of the materials they use and the expectations they have on the conservation of their work.

Methodology

The research conducted for the choice of the methodology used in interviews to record intentions of artists have developed during the thematic discussion course taught by Prof.  Magali Melleu Sehn. The following factors were studied as guides Guide to Good Practice: artists' interviews, published in 2002 by INCCA - International Network for the Conservation of Contemporary Art. Such theoretical references allowed select methodology and technique to record major questions, guiding questions for the interviewees. We adopted the methodology of oral interview technique for recording video recording. Given the complexity of the technique chosen for the record, told the support provided by the Department of Photography, Film and Theatre School of Fine Arts.
