Abstract

This thesis examines the possibilities and limitations of conservation of art works, which are made of natural latex. Main consideration is given to the work ‘Fishman’ (1968/69) by Paul Thek, which is kept in the Kolumba Museum collection in Cologne. The research on the artist’s intention, technology, condition report of the work, as well as comparison of this ‘Fishman’ with the other three versions of the sculpture and their conservation history, form the basis for the development of a treatment proposal and presentation concept. A concept for storage and transport of ‘Fishman’ is proposed.
