Some Aesthetic Qualities of a Medium

Abstract
The author analyses the computer screen form an aesthetic point of view. To facilitate this task, the screen is compared to a traditional painting and analogous aesthetic items, comparable ones and incomparability’s are named. Four new qualities belonging exclusively to the new medium are described and examples of new art-forms, coming into being by the artistic use of it are given. The facilities and possibilities the computer provides for developing understanding between spectator and art are indicated. The new art-form Net art is described as a paradigmatic example for communication and mutual information.
