Dear INCCA Community,
Greetings to everyone!
We want to start this months newsletter by reminding you all to sign up to watch the INCCA Student Café pt.6: Time-Based Media online via Zoom on 23rd October 2025, 5pm CEST. Presentations will be given by Isobel Finlay, Bird Nord, Chang Lan, Mariana Passos, and Olivia Schoenfeld and cover a diverse range of research and practical conservation projects, including re-digitization strategies for video works, maintenance of CRT-based installations, emulation of obsolete multimedia formats, documentation frameworks for undocumented video installations, preservation approaches for analogue film, and disk imaging as a strategy for computer-based artworks. To register, visit our Eventbrite page, and to read more about our speakers, visit the INCCA website.
In other news, INCCA is excited to share another mentoring opportunity in collaboration with the SBMK. This year, the Foundation for the Conservation of Contemporary Art (SBMK) in the Netherlands is celebrating its 30-year anniversary on 11 December 2025 with a symposium geared towards reciprocal intergenerational learning and knowledge transfer. The programme will start with a keynote lecture by INCCA’s Steering Committee member Pip Laurenson. This will be followed by numerous project presentations, conversations with Tatja Scholte, Ijsbrand Hummelen and Renée van de Vall as well as an interview with successive SBMK coordinators, and a panel discussion with museum directors on the future of contemporary art conservation.
During the symposium, the SBMK will be hosting an INCCA Speed Mentoring Session for participants. The session is a chance for emerging conservators and those just entering contemporary art conservation to network through short (10 minutes) one-on-one conversations with established professionals in the field. A list of mentors will be circulated in the lead up to the event and potential mentees can book up to two sessions. For more information and registration, please visit: www.sbmk.nl. Please note that the symposium will be held in Dutch.
Lastly, we wrote to all our INCCA members in January about the future of INCCA and our change in stewardship from the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE) to the International Institute of Conservation (IIC). We wanted to let you know that we will be updating all our members on this shortly are excited to share more about our promising future.
All the very best,
INCCA Steering Committee
