Time-Based Media Artwork

Call for participation!

Deadline:  31st August 2025

Students and early career conservators (up to 2 years post-graduation) are invited to present in the next INCCA Student Café, which will focus on the long-term preservation challenges posed by time-based media artworks.

From digital storage risks, equipment obsolescence, performance documentation and emulation strategies, this Café invites participants to explore the many facets of preserving complex time-based media artworks for future generations. The Café will feature up to 5 speakers, each with 5 minutes to outline their research or project. We welcome all types of projects, including MA and PhD research, work placement/internship case studies, or conservation treatments that deal with time-based media’s long-term care. Presentation topics could include: challenges working with artists, documentation methods, evolving or ephemeral works or personal practical experiences. All presentation formats are welcome.

After the presentations, speakers and participants are invited to join an open discussion. Professionals and students from all disciplines and career stages are encouraged to attend, listen, and contribute to the conversation.

We hope this Café will offer a supportive platform for emerging conservators to connect with fellow INCCA members, share experiences, and explore potential collaborations. Presenting your project may also lead to opportunities for further involvement in future INCCA Talks. Please fill in the participation request form by 31st August 2025, including your presentation topic/abstract, a short bio and 1-2 project images with credits.

Please contact info@incca.org for any questions.

The INCCA Student Café pt.5 will be hosted online via Zoom on 23rd October 2025, 4pm CEST(Amsterdam 4pm / London 3pm / Gweru 4pm / Seoul 11pm / Mexico City 8am / LA 7am) and will not be recorded.
