-Compositions in Light & Language: Conservation of Jenny Holzer’s LED Artworks is a symposium devoted to the preservation of Jenny Holzer’s signature body of work, exemplified by the monumental LED sign that currently centers the Guggenheim’s exhibition Jenny Holzer: Light Line.
The program will commence with an afternoon exhibition tour on Friday, September 27, in the museum’s Frank Lloyd Wright–designed rotunda to view Holzer’s Installation for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (1989/2024). This tour will be paired with a guided visit to a special study display in one of the museum’s Tower Galleries, featuring a portion of the 1989 manifestation of this iconic Holzer work. Following these two viewings, the first day’s program will culminate with an introductory lecture and overview.
The symposium will continue the morning of Saturday, September 28, with a full-day of speakers including representatives from the Jenny Holzer Studio, some of Holzer’s long-standing collaborators and LED technicians, Guggenheim Museum conservators and curators, as well as presenters who will share perspectives on caring for works by Holzer at other institutions. The symposium will conclude with an evening reception on the rotunda floor for symposium attendees.
The symposium will be free for all attendees, but seating is limited. Please use the links below to RSVP; each day requires a separate registration.
