First and foremost, if you’ve been wondering about the August edition of INCCA’s newsletter - no we did not get carried away by our holidays. ;) We experienced some technical problems but we are back now and we very much appreciate your patience! You can find the full August newsletter here.
On 11th July, during INCCA-AP Café: The Conservator’s role in the acquisition process, a tale of evolving protocols? Mar Cruz, Lisa Mansfield, Kim Hwanju, and Jihyun Choi responded to the question from different backgrounds, different perspectives. This Café showed how the role of the conservator in this context can be more broadly defined than merely ensuring the preservation of the work while working together with artists and collections researchers. Full recap here.
At this year’s AIC Meeting in May, we teamed up again with AIC’s Contemporary Art Network (CAN!) to organise the annual Speed Mentoring Session. For the first time at an AIC venue, we had every session booked up before the conference began, with almost 30 mentees signing up. We were also able to facilitate a number of emerging professionals to participate in brief speed-round style interviews on their experiences entering the field with mentor Cass Fino-Radin, for the C Word - The Conservator's Podcast. Read the full recap here.
Last and excitingly, we are more than thrilled to announce the 3rd edition of the INCCA Café: Student & Early Career Research on 3rd October! Presentations will be given by Aurora Cairoli, Rosemie Coppens, Marta Collado Barcina and Dea Moreno. The talks will include case studies on: the conservation of outdoor COR-TEN® sculpture; the artwork Goyesca (el grito) by June Papineau, the conservation of a contemporary outdoor mural painting; and Chlorophyll printing as an alternative photographic technique. A discussion will follow about how connections to ‘the outdoors’ differently impact and influence the conservation of these works. For better language accessibility we provide English live caption and Spanish AI translation in this event. All are welcome to join. Learn more about the Café and the speakers, and register here.
We wish you the best,
INCCA Steering Committee
