INCCA w/CAN! Speed Mentoring Session. May 2024.

Hello INCCA Community,

We hope you are enjoying your holidays! In this newsletter edition, we got a couple of recaps from our recent events - some light reading while enjoying a break from work. ;)

On 11th July, we posed the question ‘How do you manage the acquisition of artworks that are constantly evolving or that require the replication of parts?’ During INCCA-AP Café: The Conservator’s role in the acquisition process, a tale of evolving protocols? Mar Cruz, Lisa Mansfield, Kim Hwanju, and Jihyun Choi responded to the question from different backgrounds, different perspectives. This Café showed how the role of the conservator in this context can be more broadly defined than merely ensuring the preservation of the work while working together with artists and collections researchers. Read the full recap here.

INCCA also collaborates with other organisations. We partnered with AIC’s Contemporary Art Network (CAN!) to organise the annual Speed Mentoring Session at the AIC Meeting on 22nd May. For the first time at an AIC venue, we had every session booked up before the conference began, with almost 30 mentees signing up, and this was undoubtedly boosted by a very efficient liaison between CAN! and AIC's Emerging Conservation Professionals Network. In addition to the speed mentoring event, we were also able to facilitate a number of emerging professionals to participate in brief speed-round style interviews on their experiences entering the field with mentor Cass Fino-Radin, for the C Word - The Conservator's Podcast. Read the full recap here.

Last but not least (and very importantly!), we would like to thank all members of the INCCA Community. We are able to organise all these events due to your support, whether sharing your research or simply participating and contributing to the inspirational discussions. This is the realisation of INCCA’s goal of knowledge-sharing! We are very excited to continue this path. If you have any comments, suggestions, or feedback, feel free to reach out to us!

Our best wishes to everyone,

INCCA Steering Committee
