-TRANSFORMATION DIGITAL ART
International symposium on the preservation of software-based art.
17 & 18 March 2022, online!
Transformation Digital Art is a LIMA symposium on ongoing research and practices in the field of media art archiving, documentation and preservation. Commencing online in March 2022, Transformation Digital Art is designed as an opportunity to share practices concerning both artist-led and institutional strategies geared towards the future presentation of born-digital and software based art.
This edition will revolve around the theme of collaborative knowledge building and sharing.
The more knowledge is gathered and presented online the more urgent it becomes to develop sustainable networks capable of preserving and nourishing it - to discover new ways of working together, of sharing knowledge as well as responsibility. We believe it is crucial to use the symposium to explore discourses on collaborative approaches in sharing and caring for media art. In bringing together professionals of various strands, our hope is to facilitate an encounter that will allow for a critical reflection on the politics, architectures, processes and networks - within and beyond the art institutions.
The two symposium days will both start with dedicated intensive workshops followed by public sessions with artists talks, presentations and discussions. The focus of day one is on strategy and practice of collaborative born digital art preservation projects in the UK, Central Europe, Taiwan and the Netherlands. Day two is geared towards knowledge building and sharing and the technical systems in use that are both collaborative and archival, and about social practices that happen through and around them.
