Dear colleagues, I am pleased to announce the official program and ticket link for "All Together Now: Time-Based Media Art and Collaborative Stewardship", taking place at LACMA on April 25 and 26. This two-day colloquium will explore the life cycles of time-based media artworks across key moments of creation, definition, exhibition, preservation, and ownership with a focus on the artist's voice and legacy.
What happens when the technology of today becomes the dregs of the past? When a media artwork is maintained by an artist’s studio or estate, represented by a gallery, and collected by multiple individuals or institutions, whose job is it to ensure the materials and the intent of the work lives on in accordance with the artist’s wishes? The demands of collecting and caring for time-based media have increasingly become an urgent and complicated concern for the art world in the digital age. Seldom have all stakeholders in a time-based media artwork’s life-cycle come together for discussion around best practices in collaboratively establishing the authentic disposition of a time-based artwork, now and into the future. Given the large amount of artists, galleries, museums, and collectors in California, we are hosting a colloquium to celebrate our work and to forge new paths for successful collaboration and discussion. We hope to see you!
