Research Project , August 2002 - 31. July 2003
The media_art_net dortmund, a new association between the hartware medien kunst verein, the Museum am Ostwall and the Administration of Cultural Affaires of the city of Dortmund, has initiated a research programme focused on methods of production, presentation and preservation of media art. The project is supported by the European Commission and will be realized in co-operation with among others the Netherlands Media Art Institute, Montevideo/TBA (Amsterdam), the Center for Culture & Communication, C3 (Budapest) and Hans Dieter Huber, Staatliche Akadmie der Bildenden Künste, Stuttgart (which plans to establish an academic postgraduate course of study of media and digital art preservation).

Next to the research work, the project consists in a conference, which will present and discuss the issues of the project and its results on an international and interdisciplinary level.
The conference is accompanied by show cases of media /new media art works corresponding to the conference.
Both, the conference and show cases will take place in the period between March and April 2003. Additionally, an internetforum, as well as an open data bank will be set up in the context of the project.
