We are seeking a full time Assistant Conservator, Time-Based Media to work within our Time-based Media Conservation team supporting Tate programmes and collection care.
The post holder will work with the team and focus on supporting the acquisition of new works in to the collection. This role will develop the understanding of individual artworks, their production techniques and technical requirements, as well as of risks for preservation. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of strategies, procedures and workflows for the preservation of the works in the Collection.
A professional qualification in Time-based Media Conservation or equivalent experience is essential. Familiarity with digital preservation and the care of digital media is desirable as is technical knowledge of a wide range of media including film, video, audio, slides and software.
Strong documentation skills and attention to detail are required along with experience of assessing, documenting and installing artworks. You will be able to demonstrate the practical skills required for analysing artworks and identifying preservation risks, and the willingness to learn about new developments and tools.
You must have working knowledge of databases, CAD and word-processing software. Good communication skills, the ability to work flexibly as a part of a team or alone, effective time-management skills and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving are critical.
