With all the environmental and political turmoil that we are facing at the start of this new decade, it is quite a challenge to focus on the every day. The heartbreaking images of the fires raging in Australia makes me question what more I can do to help. When I feel like the small sacrifices I am making at home are just a few drops in the ocean, I need to remind myself that a wave is made up of drops of water and that every little bit counts.
At work, I take comfort in the fact that what I do is part of the process in preserving the legacy of artists. Artists see certain aspects of our lives and in the world around us. They enhance these aspects in their work so that when we experience art, we too can contemplate our place in the world. Contemplation leads to discussion and discussion leads to change. So, once again, every little bit counts.
Sharing information is the best way to ensure proper care of art, now and in the future. Why not make 2020 the year for you to share some of the artist interviews you have made? Ruth del Fresno-Guillem is a great example. Ruth is a contemporary art conservator in private practice who primarily works for private collections with emerging artists. She is collecting artist interviews and making them accessible through her TestimoniArt website.
