education and training at several Museums and institutions in Germany and Switzerland (Doerner-Institute, Swiss Institute for Art Research) starting 1979, since 1987 chief conservator for the Emil and Ada Nolde Foundation (unitl now Supervisor), chief conservator at the German Historic Museum (Berlin 1993 -95), chief conservator at K20K21, Kunstsammlung NRW (Düsseldorf 1998 - 2011) and chief conservator at the Kunstmuseum Basel (2011 - today).
