What is your education and/or training?
I am a third-year graduate student and emerging conservator in the conservation track of the M.A. program in Fashion and Textile Studies: History, Theory, Museum Practice at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where much of my education and object-based training has primarily focused on dress & textile conservation and history. I am interested in the conservation of contemporary fashion/modern materials; modern and contemporary art using textiles and fiber as mediums; composite objects involving fashion/textiles, and textiles & clothing as artist's materials (in addition to the conservation of fiber-based realia/objects from artist's estates and studios)– and all the theoretical and ethical implications that accompany these interests! In the fall, I'll be working on a project involving the conservation of textiles and hanging garments in the home/archive of Louise Bourgeois.
Before I pursued textile/fashion conservation, I was (and still am) heavily interested in the conservation of time-based media & Internet art, taking part in conferences on ethics & archiving the Web and writing a lot about saving personal homepages :)
