Peter Struycken's monumental artwork in the city of Arnhem, Blue Waves (1977) is in danger of being demolished. Meanwhile many people have raised their voice against these plans, and efforts have been undertaken to raise awareness about the artwork's significance for our cultural heritage and to Arnhem's cultural identity in particular. Alternative plans have been made in consultation with the artist and presented to the city, so that they can realize their plans without demolishing the artwork. In the last days before a final decision is made, it is crucial to show the city of Arnhem that they have a beautiful artwork when it is clean. Join us to clean Blue Waves on Friday 22 September 2017 from 14:00–16.00 hrs. Bring your own tools to clean the paved artwork, such as cleaning brushes and empty bottles, buckets and jerrycans for water. The artist will be there to oversee the event. Prior to the cleaning action an information event is planned with the speakers Carel Blotkamp, Sjarel Ex, Bernard Colenbrander, and Gijs Frieling. This takes place nearby in Rozet between 12:00–13:45. See links at the right for details (in Dutch).
