Dia Art Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the Joan Jonas Knowledge Base, hosted in collaboration with Electronic Arts Intermix and in conjunction with the Joan Jonas exhibition, opening at Dia Beacon on October 8, 2021.
This live online event will include an introduction to the Joan Jonas Knowledge Base by project directors Barbara Clausen, Deena Engel, and Glenn Wharton, followed by a screening of archival footage of Jonas’ seminal work Organic Honey (1973), and a discussion between the artist, EAI director Rebecca Cleman, and Haus der Kunst director Andrea Lissoni. In the week after the event, EAI will host a virtual film showcase, allowing viewers to explore additional video works by Jonas over the course of a week. The Joan Jonas Knowledge Base is an open-source digital resource, presenting a collection of documentary materials, photographs, videos, interviews, and bibliographies. The resource features studies on two of the artist’s seminal works: Organic Honey (1972; 1972/1994) and Mirage (1976; 1976/1994/2005; 1976/2001) and three exhibition case studies that represent important moments in Jonas’s artistic development from the early 1980s to today. This academic research project is part of the Artist Archive Initiative and is dedicated to providing information to conservators, curators, and other researchers who seek to learn more about individual artists’ work.
