Event Description:

The Emerging Professionals Coffee Chats are a series of virtual gatherings organized by the ICOM-CC Modern Materials and Contemporary Art Working Group to inform our members as well as non-members of the many interesting research projects carried out every year in our field by students and PhD researchers, and to provide the latter an opportunity to introduce their work to our larger community, and hopefully facilitate connections. With these events, we would like to increase the involvement of students and young professionals, improve the connections between members, and promote and facilitate exchanges of practical experiences, research findings, ideas, and questions.

On November 7th, the first Emerging Professionals Coffee Chat will focus on research studies into the conservation of Time-based media, Plastics, and Modern Paints. During this event, the following emerging professionals, who graduated in 2021 and 2022, will present their research: Taylor Healy (New York University, Institute of Fine Arts, Conservation Center, US, graduation 2021), Marieke Kruithof (Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, Contemporary Art, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, graduation 2021), Paula Gaßmann (Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Austria, graduation 2022) and Carolina Viana (NOVA School of Science and Technology, Portugal, graduation 2021).

Following the presentations, the Working Group Assistant Coordinators Helena Ernst (Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum / Cologne Institute of Conservation and Science) and Ellen Jansen (University of Amsterdam) will moderate the Q&A sessions.

The event will be opened by the ICOM-CC Directory Board - Coordinator Liaison Stephanie de Roemer and introduced by the ICOM-CC Modern Materials and Contemporary Art Working Group Coordinator Anna Laganà.
