The Collections at the Archives of American Art comprise the largest primary source documentation on the visual arts in America. The Oral History Program offers approximately three thousand interviews that are partly accessible online. Furthermore, the Collections contain letters, diaries, sketchbooks, photographs, etc. Since 1970 the Archives of American Art are housed in the Smithsonian Institute (Washington, D.C.).
Interviews include, among others, Arman, Alexander Calder, Jim Dine, Helen Frankenthaler, Sol Lewitt, Roy Lichtenstein, Bruce Nauman, Claes Oldenburg, Dennis Oppenheim, Otto Piene, Ad Reinhardt, Ben Shahn, Robert Smithson.
