30th Anniversary Gerry Hedley Student Symposium

"Continuing the Legacy: Current topics furthering Gerry Hedley's research"

Tate Britain 11-13 June 2012

Presented by Northumbria University with kind support from Tate

Call for Papers:

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Gerry Hedley Student Symposium, papers will be sought from both recent graduates and professionals to be presented alongside those traditionally given by student speakers.

We are looking for two kinds of submissions:

A brief 10 minute paper. These are intended to offer professionals unable to give a full length paper the opportunity to share their research and experiences. By grouping together shorter presentations we hope to encourage informal debate and give a broader perspective of current issues in conservation.

20 minute paper with a further 10 minutes for questions. This gives the opportunity to present a longer research paper in the same format as those to be presented by students at the symposium.

Papers should engage with the following themes:

New developments relating to Gerry Hedley's work, particularly focusing upon advances in lining techniques and practical, aesthetic and ethical considerations of cleaning.

Advancements in and applications of technical analysis.

Issues relating to the treatment of modern and contemporary paintings.

The submission deadline for abstracts is Friday 3 February 2012, with first drafts required by April 2 2012.
