Announcement: Infrared and Raman Users Group (IRUG) Raman Spectroscopy Workshop

The Infrared and Raman Users Group (IRUG) is pleased to announce a two-day Raman Spectroscopy Workshop to be held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA) on September 27-28, 2012. The workshop is the first of its kind to be offered by IRUG (www.irug.org) and will feature lectures on practical issues and strategies in the Raman analysis of cultural heritage artifacts and materials, as well as an introduction to the IRUG Raman spectral database.
Topics covered will be: the history of the use of Raman spectroscopy in the museum field; theory and instrumentation; SERS; and analysis of minerals, pigments, dyes, gems, glass, plastics, paintings, photographs, works of art on paper, and cross-sections. Speakers will include Danilo Bersani (University of Parma), Lucia Burgio (Victoria and Albert Museum), Francesca Casadio (Art Institute of Chicago), Silvia Centeno (Metropolitan Museum of Art), Bruce Chase (University of Delaware), Suzan de Groot (Cultural Heritage Institute), Marco Leona (Metropolitan Museum of Art), Suzanne Lomax (National Gallery of Art), Jennifer Mass (Winterthur Museum), Constanza Miliani (University of Perugia, CNR-ISTM), Richard Newman (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston), Beth Price (Philadelphia Museum of Art), Nadim Scherrer (Bern University of the Arts), Manfred Schreiner (Academy of Fine Arts. Vienna), Greg Smith (Indianapolis Museum of Art), and Tom Tague (Bruker Optics).
All are invited to attend although space is limited. Workshop registration fee is $75 for professionals and $35 for students. The registration deadline is August 31, 2012.
